We are three students at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and in January 2014 will start the project „Ideas made in Africa“. Driving from Germany to South Africa by car we follow the goal to gain insight into the African Start-up ecosystem and learn all about entrepreneurship in Africa. Which business models currently are successful in Africa? How does the process of product development take place considering different markets and cultures? What can we learn from the African mentality?

With a Mitsubishi L300 4WD bus we will cover about 20.000 kilometers on our way from Germany to South Africa. After crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, the scheduled route leads through the northern African states Morocco and Mauretania. If possible the journey continues along the Atlantic coast until Nigeria. During the last part of the tour, we will cross Angola and Namibia, and finish with a stay in South Africa. Of course spontaneous changes of the route might happen.

The journey’s experiences and discoveries are going to be analyzed and reviewed within a master thesis subsequent to our return. In this matter we are being supported by the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Technology Management and Innovation as well as the Institute of Product Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

With this Blog and of course our Facebook page we want to provide everyone interested with all information regarding our journey by means of Photos, Videos and Interviews. Of course we also look forward to receiving feedback, questions or suggestions!

Also we offer a variety of sponsoring opportunities. If you are interested, we’ll be happy to hear from you!
